Well, no—not exactly. As a matter of fact the first preseason football game is not until August 3rd—-and that’s not really football AND the Redskins are in that. So, I guess there is a ways to go. Everyone knows I am a die hard Cowboy fan. Johns Hopkins Lacrosse normally helps get me through the off-season, and the NCAA basketball tournament is the greatest 3 weeks in sports. BUT that pretty much all wraps up today with the Final 4, and then the Final on Monday night. Hopkins has lost 4 in a row, and is having what is for them a horrible year. Per my “You can not complain about a college team for 3 years after a championship” rule, I am not honestly allowed to get to down on them. They have given us 2 out of the last 3 NCAA Championships. Hopefully, they can turn it around—but nonetheless—I need to put some positive sports energy into something!!!

So what better than the NFL draft!!! Lord help me—and I know I need help—I love the draft. 3 years ago during the middle of church Shannon noticed my attention seemed to be elsewhere during the sermon. I can’t say she was pleased to find me using the web browser on my phone hidden under a hymnal to monitor the ongoings of the 4th round. Yup, I am that bad. Last year I was caught with the tv on ESPN “2″s live coverage of the 6th round while listening to Dallas Cowboys radio online—-while using another laptop to skim through NFL.com’s “best still available list”. I think Shannon would have been less disgusted in me had she found me with another woman. Well, anyway–imagine my disappointment when the Cowboys took a kicker, Nick Folk (who I should add went on to make the Pro Bowl as a rookie), over the 3rd Nose Tackle I knew the Boys just had to have. I guess this is to say—-I don’t have the SLIGHTEST idea what personnel decisions the team should make. I think I do–but I don’t.

With that said, please learn from my world renowned expertise!!!! I will be doing a series of draft related post over the next few weeks leading up to the draft. For the 2 - 8 people that may read this I will follow-up on your questions or suggestions. Any players or spots of need you want identified we can discuss!!

However, I am going to state that no matter what happens with the Pacman/Chad Johnson rumors—-there are 3 big areas of need that HAVE to be addressed. In no particular order they are Running Back, Wide Receiver, and Cornerback. The Cowboys have 3 picks (22, 28, and 61) in the first 2 rounds. I am sure that will change. The Cowboys may give some picks to move up—–or more likely gain some picks to move down. But we can’t predict what will happen on draft day—-so for the most part we will operate under the assumptions we will be picking at those spots. Fair?

First up will be Running Backs. Stay tuned and let me know if you have any thoughts or questions you would like addressed in that area.
