Rich shows off his mad skills

Its us!!! At the Cowboys games in the New Cowboys Stadium!!! Yes—WAY UP THERE! FINE! But you know what, I could not be happier or more thankful!

Miracles may never cease!!! All I can say is my wife is really, really awesome for making it happen! The seats are not in yet as you can see from the photo below:

seats.jpg

But they are coming! Jerry called me this morning to apologize for the delay. Apparently for our seats he has special ordered some kind of Italian leather recliner massage type chairs. I told him that we did appreciate it, but we are no better than common folk that surround us—the traditional plastic will be just fine!

If you enlarge the picture you can see a little yellow dot that I added to the photo. That “should be” approximately where the seats are. Rich and I (and Shannon for us) are all very excited about it. Section 447, Row 27, Seats 7 & 8 are the exact location. With Season Tickets we get tickets to the 10 home games (8 regular season and 2 preseason games) each year. We also have the opportunity to purchase playoff tickets for home games when applicable. We will probably only be able to make 2 or 3 games a year, and will sell the rest to help cover the costs. BUT over the next 30 years I promise to make sure they get put to good use!

One last item—the big black rectangle hanging in the middle of the field is the largest HD televsion in the world. It will run from the 20 yard line to the other 20 yard line. It is already be informally refered to as “JerryTron”! I believe the seats are in line with one of the goal lines on the field on the plane of the endzone. With the assistance of JerryTron instant replays and even live action will be better than ever! It should be an amazing experience and I am eager to experience and share it personally—as well as to share it with friends and family over the next 3 decades!

No, this is not a shout out to everyones half shelled super hero favorites!! Its a quick update as to what Shannon has been up to. Shannon plays for team Greene Turtle. Over the weekend, they were Team Vitamin Water as that was the Corporate Sponsor that paid their tournament entry fee. I digress…

Shannon’s team played in a lacrosee tournament over the weekend, and we wanted to throw some visual evidence up there. Fully recovered from the broken ankle of last Spring (although playing with an ankle brace or taped), Princess Cannonball is back at it!

Shannon split time between the field and goal over the weekend. She played 2 games in goal and 2 in the field. The results? Well not so much, but its pretty much all about having a good time anyway. Shannon really likes the great majority of girls on her team, and they just go out and have fun. Some of them—maybe a little too much. On a hot July weekend, keeping a steady stream of liquids is essential to keeping hydrated. Unfortunately, many of Shannon’s teammates thought shot-gunning miller lite would be almost as effective as water or gatorade. That didn’t really help the final scores, but again—-everybody had a good time.

They played tough, but came up short. Salisbury is one of the better teams in our league so there is not any shame in that score. Rich was out of the goal and back in the field at long stick defense. He did draw 3 penalties in this game. 2 were good calls, one was no good. Rich has a good hit in these highlights near the end.

Enjoy.

Navy played their 3rd game of the season last night, and so far it was their best effort. We dropped the game 4 - 2, but it was honestly a lot more good than bad. We got unlucky on a lot of offensive opportunities last night. It very easily could have gone the other way. The ball just didn’t bounce our way on a few.

It was also the most aggressive game I have seen played at the rec level. You would have thought the teams were in a blood feud! There was an awful lot of hard hitting going on—-most of it legal, and as you will see some of it not so much.

Rich was back in the goal. Overall the defense did a good job in front of him as well. We missed a few slides, but we pressured the ball well and for the most part limited the one one one/point blank stuff that killed us on Saturday. Rich saw the ball well, made some good saves, and made good decisions with the ball on clears.

We are back in action on Saturday.

Navy played its second game of the season yesterday. We shot out to a 3 - 1 lead, but just couldn’t hold on. We kind of wore out as the game wemt on, and ended up losing 7 - 4. Rich made his first every start in goal yesterday, and despite the score he played great! Honestly—and again those that know me know I wouldn’t say it if he didn’t. He had several nice saves.

All that being said, the whole team played well—-just not for 4 quarters. Looks like more conditioning at practice!!

We are back on the field Wednesday night.

Just copy and paste the link to see the highlights on youtube. Navy is wearing blue jerseys—UNC is wearing white.

The good news is the lacrosse season is underway. The bad news is that it got off to a bit of a slow start. Navy dropped the opener on Saturday to Virginia, 9 - 4.

For you newcomers here is the deal… You have to copy and paste the link into your browser bar to get to the youtube highlights.

The software this blog is published in will be updated to allow the embedding of the link directly into the post. For now—this is what we got!!

The guys started off a bit slower than Virginia. Navy found itself down 3 - 0 before the guys knew what hit them. However, the team showed a lot of character and battled hard and played much more evenly from that point on. The passing and catching needs to be cleaned up, but the potential is definitely there.

Kyle had 10 saves in goal. The video highlights are mainly of the goals scored so not too many of those made it to the web—but some great saves kept it tight until a good way into the 4th quarter. Congratulations to Ryan and Christian and who each found the back of the net twice to account for the 4 Navy goals.

Please feel free to forward the link to anyone who may want to see it.

No, I am not talking about his report card. Not yet anyway.

While having a gourmet meal in front of our television tonight the following conversation took place. Steve McNair, who was the QB of the Ravens, announced his retirement after 13 years in the NFL. The reporter asked him how he would like to be remembered as a player. McNair replied–”just that I was a tough player.”

I am not a Ravens fan, and I was also never a Titans fan. But I loved watching McNair play. He is the toughest football player I have ever seen. And again—I have watched a lot of football. I was reflecting on the guts he had shown over and over, and as I was in midthought Rich chimes in with—-”my mouth hurts and its hard to eat.” Rich just went to the ortho where they did some work on his braces. Mocking him much more than being serious I told Rich “that guy broke his sternum!! Lived in a hospital for 4 weeks. On game days the Titans came and got him for the game, he played, and then they took him back to the hospital!!!!” Then I said “you’re going to sit there and whine about how much your cold cut sub hurts to chew!! Wheenie!!!”

Without missing a beat Rich shoots back “I survived cancer—lets see him do that!!”

To quote Kenny Rogers, you gotta know when to fold him…

The draft is almost here!!!! I feel like a kid at Christmas in my excitement for it. I have been tempted to make one of those paper chains—-where you cut a link off for each day that passes by until there are none left!! I know—I am a loser. I have no defense for myself. So here is the last position specific deep review. And this one is kind of a biggie for us this year! Cornerback. Just me, but I don’t think there is a bigger need on the roster.

Hello ladies and gentlemen. The bad news is that I am having some significant issues with my host provider!! Currently, I can not simply add youtube videos to my blog post. Therefore, I must attach the link—and you my treasured audience of 3 - 5 people must click through the link. After a lengthy and somewhat contentious conversation with my provider I have been assured they will “fix the glitch.” Until that point, we have to do this the old fashioned way….
